Start with your priority. For more published vertical, look at Sugar. For a higher published summit, look at Beech. For beginners, put suitable instruction and currently open learning terrain ahead of either statistic.
The differences you can actually compare

| Rental process | On-site sales; preregistration saves time | Online rental purchasing; some items sold only in person |

For the first ski day
Choose the lesson first: the right age group, activity, ability level and arrival time. A bigger mountain is not automatically a better first morning. Compare the full package, including equipment and slope access, before comparing headline ticket prices.
Sugar’s standard group and private lessons use day-of registration; its children’s programs have their own process. Beech separates its lesson programs, so check the one that applies to your group. Sugar lesson details ↗ · Beech lesson details ↗
For an experienced or mixed-ability group
Sugar’s additional vertical may matter to riders seeking longer descents. Beech’s higher summit may matter to your choice of setting, but elevation alone does not establish better snow. On your actual date, inspect which terrain is open, the lift status, wind and the forecast.
For a mixed group, agree on the learning arrangements and a meeting point before prioritizing advanced terrain. Resort difficulty labels are local classifications, not a promise that similarly colored runs ski the same at both mountains.
The booking difference that can change your morning
Sugar: first-time lift cards are purchased on site; online ticket sales reload existing cards. Rental preregistration is not an equipment reservation. Beech: use its ticket and rental purchase options for your chosen session; demo equipment and clothing rentals are sold in person.

For a weekend stay
Choose a mountain-focused property when your group plans to ski the same resort throughout the trip. Compare a Banner Elk-area base when you want a mixed itinerary. In either case, check each route from the exact address, ask about winter access and read the cancellation terms.

Use official operating reports and timestamped forecasts. Neither a high summit nor a snowfall headline tells you how many suitable runs you can ski. Compare the same dates and session lengths, then include tickets, rentals, lessons, fees and lodging in your budget.
